Grand Hoth Tram Casino Operating Path Similar to Macau: CEO

Walt Power, chief executive of The Grand Hoth Tram Resorts and Casino, says casino players” preferences and game management at The Grand Hoth Tram Resort in Vietnam (pictured) are “similar” to Macau.

“It’s primarily the baccarat market,” he told GGRAsia. Proportionately, “there are a few more blackjack players and roulette players compared to Macau,” he added.

Mr. Power, an 18-year veteran of Macau, said that “80 to 85%” of players at the complex casino facility were chosen from three major markets: South Korea, mainland China and Taiwan.

“It’s about 40 percent from Korea, and if you add China and Taiwan, that market accounts for a higher percentage.”

Casinos on the Grand Ho Tram are currently unavailable for service to local athletes.

Regarding the social background of the current casino client list, Mr Power said: “I wouldn’t say it’s not too different from the target market located in [China’s] Guangdong province going to Macau: business owners, factory owners, people engaged in international trade.”

He added about gambling customers: “There’s a million stories. Each story is pretty interesting. But in general, the profile is very similar to what you see in Guangdong Province.”

Some of them are expatriates who run businesses within Vietnam and are based in Ho Chi Minh City, a city of more than 9 million people. The resort has sales and marketing offices in the city.

Betting at Grand Ho Tram’s main casino Grand Club (pictured below) is denominated in U.S. dollars, not Vietnamese dong, the local currency.
